Summer in The City
The exhibition “Summer in the City” at the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens in August, curated by Gallery Omicron and Orestis Stathopoulos, brings together the work of four artists aiming to attract the attention of art enthusiasts in Athens. Alexandra Benaki presents works of magical realism with vibrant colors and iconography that convey fundamental human values such as faith, freedom, and happiness. Her work focuses on simplicity, which she considers essential for the essence of art.
Ilias Psarris draws inspiration from symbols and signs, referencing the language of artist Basquiat, and attempts to create a visual language understandable by all. In his works, visual reality is combined with philosophical inquiry, inviting the viewer to engage in an intellectual dialogue with the artwork.
Katerina Tsaligopoulou, through her ceramics, highlights sculpture as a means of expressing functionality and the human form. Her ceramics are simple yet multi-layered, incorporating colors and shapes that depart from traditional forms, offering a timeless aesthetic.
Enea Guzja uses figurative painting to depict an inner world full of tension and existential exploration. His portraits do not merely represent the physical, but also possess a theatrical dimension, revealing the internal life of the figures he portrays.
As a whole, the exhibition seeks to showcase art as a means of self-awareness and dialogue with the viewer, inviting them to interact with the works in a way that transcends mere aesthetic experience. The curator’s perspective emphasizes the importance of approaching art with “innocent eyes,” avoiding the limitations of stereotypes and categorizations, and allowing time to reveal the true essence of art.
