Fotis Mastichiadis (1913-1992) was born in Ayvalik and, after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, relocated to Mytilene and later Thessaloniki. His talent in drawing emerged at a young age, and by 1929, he was contributing illustrations and cartoons to newspapers and magazines. In 1939, he moved to Athens and trained in printmaking, especially lithography and chromolithography, while also studying under Fotis Kontoglou. He worked for the Bank of Greece, specializing in banknote engraving, with a particular focus on etching. His work is characterized by its human-centered themes, often exploring the struggle of humanity against time and decay. Mastichiadis’ works have been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
